Edward Barrett provides Veterans’ Service Agents with Reverse Mortgage Facts
Earlier this spring, Edward Barrett, a Reverse Mortgage specialist from Your Home For Life presented an educational workshop, “Understanding the Reverse Mortgage” at the quarterly meeting of the Southeastern Veterans Service Officers Association. The meeting was held at the Plainridge racetrack in Plainville, and Senator Scott Brown was also a featured speaker.
As more and more retired veterans face rising inflation costs on their fixed incomes, a reverse mortgage is one option they can consider when planning their financial futures. The 90+ meeting attendees are Veterans Service Agents for their individual towns and will take the relevant information back to their respective town halls to share with local veterans. “Understanding the Reverse Mortgage” is an informational presentation available to individual Veterans Service Agents or Veterans within the community.
Edward has dedicated his career to working closely with seniors and their families to educate them and help them through the reverse mortgage process from start to finish. In his words, “There is nothing more gratifying than helping those who have given so much of their lives to make our country as great as it is today”.
Active in several professional organizations including the National Education Committee for the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association (NRMLA), Ed is devoted to promoting the understanding and use of the FHA insured reverse mortgage program through education. There have been several improvements over the years and these types of mortgages are primarily designed to strengthen the personal and financial independence of senior citizens by providing a source of funds without the usual monthly payment burden. Further, Reverse Mortgage funds are tax free for as long as the senior lives in the home and there are no income, medical or credit requirements. The biggest benefit is that seniors can retain ownership of their home for life – guaranteed as long as routine maintenance, insurance and property tax payments are kept up
Originally from Winchester, MA, Edward now makes his home in Dedham with his wife Carolyn and their two young children. Edward is an experienced trumpet player and you can usually find him in the summer playing the National Anthem at the Harwich Mariners games in Harwichport.
